Designing the System

SEPCO™ uses a four section part numbering chart to specify a certain type of system. This chart is used to create your part number and order your system. The part number chart, located on the last page of this guide, also contains a handy form used to create your part number and order your system.

Step 1 - Selecting the Light Fixture
Further down on this page displays the 22 most popular fixtures. Each fixture square contains a letter code designation for that fixture. The street light fixture, for example, is “SLR” or “SLC”, the power flood fixture is “PF”, etc. The fixture selection code can be preceded by, or followed by a number. This number has to do with the number of fixtures or the type and wattage of lamp in each fixture. For example, a “SLR” is one street light fixture with a domed refractor and the standard lamp. This could have been “2SLR”, which would mean two street light fixtures, or it could have been “SLR32”, which would mean a street light fixture with the Radial 32 Watt lamp.

The size of any system starts with the lighting load. First, the proper fixture for a project is selected. This could be a decorative pole top luminary like the coach fixture, “CO”, or gas fixture, “GA”, or a Cobra head style street light fixture, or one of the parking lot fixtures, etc. Each fixture performs a specific function for the lighting application. Sometimes, fixtures overlap in usage. An example of this may be a street light fixture used in a parking lot, etc. Various applications are displayed in the SEPCO™ color literature. Many times a particular outdoor lighting fixture is chosen over another not only because of its lighting attributes, but also the way it fits and looks within the local environment, architecture, and surrounding lighting plan.

Chart A lists all 22 fixtures and provides descriptions, plus typical uses and the standard lamp choice for each fixture, as well as optional lamps. The first column is the fixture code, which is used in the part number chart. Consult the factory for more information about particular applications, lighting patterns, and types of fixtures.

Each system can have one fixture or multiple fixtures of the same or different style. For example, a sign may require two fixtures, one on each side, and both can operate from the same power assembly. Another example could be landscape lighting, where two pagodas may be used to light a path, plus one flood fixture to shine up into the trees, landscaping, etc. Yet another example could be two street light fixtures operating from one power assembly.

If your application is a sign, a small sign could be done with one of the F2 sign flood fixtures with the 13 Watt compact fluorescent lamps, which will illuminate 6’ high by 6’ wide and larger. Smaller signs may use smaller lamps. Larger signs could use one or two fixtures on each sign. Double sided signs can be done with one system with two fixtures. Larger signs could also use the larger sign flood, the F1, which will illuminate up to 14’ high by 10’ wide, or use six to do a big 48’ wide billboard.

Bus shelters use the canopy fixtures or a wall pack. These can also be used for any interior or exterior lighting, as in restroom facilities, interior spaces, barns, utility sheds, garages, under awnings, gazebos, etc.
